JUST HANG IN THERE

To go forward even when it is hard to do so

When trying to get a return at a store, you must hang in there because they will not let you have your way easily.

or

We win many of life's rewards by learning how to hang in there and work till the very end.

SHOOT FOR

What I am shooting for with my blog is to

give students resource to enhance their vocabulary.

or

So, this new year I wanted to create a challenge for myself and see if I can follow it through the year. The one-a-day challenge, I felt, might turn out to be too challenging (one picture a day, one short story a day etc) and so what I am shooting for is one-a-week.

LOOKISM

LOOKISM

a term used to refer to the preferencial treatment given to people who are considered good-looking.

and/or

WHAT IS LOOKISM?

Picture

Lookism is discrimination based on a person's physical appearence. Lookism is one of the the newer isms and is recenty starting to effect many people. We as a global community need to put an end to this unjustice. Lookism is not fair and it wrecks the lives of many, every single day. The first step we can take is by stopping it ourselves. We all judge people by the way they look, and we need to make a concious effort to stop it. Furthermore, try spreading awarness aboout it. Talk to your friends and maybe even try bringing a speaker in your school or workplace to talk more about it. Don't forget!Lookism is a type of bullying and most of the time someone is teased about their weight, height or complection which all comes under physical appearrence. Surprisingly, a survey found that  people think that its fine to tease people about their ginger hair, regional accents, being blonde, being bald, being overweight, thin, short, tall, smelly and  even for having bad teeth. But, it's not ok. It's never ok to tease people about those things. In addition, did you know that anyone at any age can be a victim of Lookism? It does'nt matter if your in school, at work or even at home. LET'S STOP LOOKISM!

CAN OF WORMS

Dear student,

A can of worms is a set of problems difficult to deal wiith.

For example

Dean didn't tell his girlfriend he hasn't divorced yet because

he doesn't want to open too many cans of worms.

or

Metaphorically speaking, to open a can of worms is to

examine or attempt to solve some problem, only to

inadvertently complicate it and create even more trouble.

Literally speaking, opening a can of worms, as most

fishermen can attest, can also mean more trouble than you

bargained for. No surprise, then, that the phrase was

inspired by real live creepy crawlies.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE - VIDEO

In team sports, the term home advantage (also called home field/court/diamond/ice advantage) describes the advantage–usually a psychological advantage–that the home team is said to have over the visiting team as a result of playing in familiar facilities and in front of supportive fans. The term is also widely used in "best-of" playoff formats (e.g., best-of-seven) as being given to the team that is scheduled to play one more game at home than their opponent if all necessary games are played.

TWIGGED MY SENSES

From context, can you guess?

A stranger came to me a few days ago and asked for money. She explained she had to speak at a conference, but she had got mugged and didn't have any cash to get there. She mentioned, in passing, it was a health conference. She reeked of cigarette and that twigged my senses she might be lying.

For the first time tonight i had some more aggressive youtube responses that twigged my senses. I am sure the JIDL was on there. When i started to post subtle comments that references Jews then it got a little heavier (not a lot but it was noticeable)

How to Save Face When Things Go Wrong

In my professional life I have found that when one mishap occurs with a client several more will follow. The succeeding chain-of-events tend to be embarrassing and aggravating. Worse yet, we sometimes feel like never showing up for business again. But we all know that won’t work, so what will?

HISSY FITS

hissy fit

is an americanism that means "unreasonable outburst". You may look up the definition at some dictionaries, however I reckon women will not be very happy, being March and all.

e.g.

ANNE HATHAWAY THREW A FULL BLOWN HISSY FIT OVER AMANDA SEYFRIED’S 2013 OSCARS GOWN

http://starcrush.com/anne-hathaway-threw-a-full-blown-hissy-fit-over-amanda-seyfrieds-2013-oscars-gown/

or

My Son is 13 months old and throws the WORST hissy fits! I have a lot of patients, so usually I can brush his fits off. But I don't really want him to keep throwing these fits because eventually they will start going off in public and that would be very embarassing. I know he isn't old enough for time outs or a spanking. So what should I do to get a hold on these temper tantrums?

PIGGYBACK RIDE

Hi, Shannon

Piggyback ride is what parents do when they carry their children (one at a time) on his/her back or shoulders.

e.g.

Moe is so unskilled that when time comes for him to get a job, the only thing he will be able to do is to give people piggyback rides to the nearest bus stop.

or

Today a guy that I was hanging out with just asked me to give him a

piggyback ride. I asked him why and he said that his legs hurt.
